On the morning of February 28, 2023, the School of Marxism of Southwest Jiaotong University held the new semester’s first collective “Situation and Policy” course preparation meeting at Lecture Hall X31325 of Xiupu Campus. This meeting is designed to fully implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the work requirements of the Ministry of Education’s educational guidance activities for the spring semester of 2023 with the focus on “The First Lesson of the New Semester”. Yang Aihua, Deputy Secretary of the University CPC Committee, attended the meeting for guidance and the University’s lecturers in “Situation and Policy” also attended the meeting hosted by Liao Jun, Party Secretary of the School of Marxism.
At the start, Secretary Liao Jun shared the spirit of relevant documents about the Ministry of Education’s “The First Lesson of the New Semester”, and required the University’s lecturers in “Situation and Policy” to take the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China as the guidance to pay attention to the main issues of concern to our University’s undergraduate students, their ideological confusion, and actual needs while relying on teaching. Led by the goal of boosting confidence and unite minds, the lecturers needed to bring the spirit, routes, and guidelines of the Party’s latest documents into the “Situation and Policy” course, and give full play to ideological and political theory courses’ main channel role to make major and special theoretical explanations.
Later on, Ma Xianrui, a faculty member of the School of Marxism, introduced the syllabus and main arrangements of the “Situation and Policy” course this semester, and delivered a presentation of the teaching subject “Learning and Implementing the Spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China”. During the presentation, Ma Xianrui led participants to learn about the historic achievements and changes achieved by the Chinese people under the guidance of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping in its core position over the past ten years of the new era. He reviewed the extraordinary journey of China’s COVID-19 pandemic prevention and relief in the past three years, and sorted out the blueprint and vision proposed in the report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China on the realization of the Second Centenary Goal.
At last, Yang Aihua, Deputy Secretary of the University CPC Committee, gave a summary speech and put forward the following four crucial requirements to the University’s lecturers in “Situation and Policy”: First, the lecturers must strengthen all-round learning to improve political attainments, so that this ideological and political theory course can plant the seeds of truth, goodness, and beauty in students’ minds, and guide students to establish correct concepts in the initial stage of their life; Second, the lecturers were supposed to hold their bottom line, adhere to the correct values, set strict requirements for themselves as lecturers in ideological and political theory of Southwest Jiaotong University, and dare to speak out on issues involving principles; Third, the lecturers should actively promote positive energy, spread Chinese stories, and guide students to support the Party sincerely and develop into patriotic youngsters; Fourth, the lecturers had to care about their teaching methods and always take facts as the basis to help students dialectically and scientifically recognize objective facts in an invisible and formative manner.
This collective course preparation meeting came to an end in a warm atmosphere. The participating faculty members stated that they would devote more time and energy to the research of teaching content, the innovation of teaching methods, and the improvement of teaching effectiveness, imparting knowledge “with heart, affection, and reason”, and do their duty in the “Situation and Policy” course, thus creating a first-class “golden ideological and political theory course”.
