On July 3, the School of Marxism successfully held the 2022 Outstanding College Student Academic Summer Camp online. This summer camp mainly included a content of introduction to the University history, general introduction to the School, online exchange meeting among teachers and students, campers report, and one-to-one interview. After preliminary review and screening, a total of 32 outstanding university students participated in this online summer camp.
At 9 a.m., the opening ceremony was officially held on Tencent Meeting platform. First of all, Xie Yu, Associate Dean of the School of Marxism, presided over the opening ceremony. She welcomed campers from universities around the country, and hoped that all campers could cherish the opportunity of this Academic Summer Camp to communicate actively with teachers, abide by relevant regulations, and fully show themselves in this summer camp.
Then, Professor Zhang Xueyong, Director of the Liberal Arts Construction Department, and Professor Tian Yongxiu, Executive Dean of the School of Marxism, introduced the history of SWJTU and the School of Marxism respectively. In Director Zhang’s speech, his words led campers to follow university’s developing course, from Tangshan to Chengdu, from north China to southwest, describing a over 25,000-kilometer journey, 18 migrations, 17 times of renaming, highlighting SWJTU’s spirit of ‘Rejuvenating the Motherland When Intellectually Accomplished and Making Unremitting Efforts to Improve Yourselves’. Executive Dean Tian then narrated the history of the School development from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences to the School of Political Science and then to the School of Marxism. She gave a comprehensive introduction to campers from the basic situation of the School, postgraduates’ training characteristics, strong research team, as well as sufficient support and security conditions, hoping that this summer camp would be an opportunity for outstanding students to attend postgraduate recommendation or apply for the School of Marxism of Southwest Jiaotong University.
Then, Professor Li Shimin, Professor Liu Xiaoling, Professor Yang Huan, Professor Ma Xianrui, and Professor Yang Dexia introduced the direction of each major as representatives among outstanding young faculty. Through professors’ introduction, campers gained a deeper understanding of directions of the subordinates of the Marxist theory major.
In the afternoon, professors of the School conducted one-to-one interviews with two groups divided in the order of name list. Campers introduced themselves and reported their research interests. Finally, at the closing ceremony, Associate Dean Xie Yu made comments on the performance of campers and welcomed them to apply for the School of Marxism of Southwest Jiaotong University.
After one-day summer camp study, all campers showed excellent comprehensive quality and good spiritual outlook, passed the comprehensive assessment, and successfully completed the course. The School also evaluated Excellent Campers accordingly, marking the 2022 Outstanding College Student Academic Summer Camp of School of Marxism of Southwest Jiaotong University came to a successful end.
